I first heard about hot toddies on The Golden Girls. Needless to say, it didn’t really pique my interest…maybe it was the combination of Amaretto and Sambuca:
Dorothy: “Ma, another hot toddy? I think I’ve had enough!”
Sophia: “Shut up and drink.”
Dorothy: “This is the fourth one! Ma, that’s an awful lot of whiskey!”
Sophia: “I only put whiskey in the first one, then we ran out. The second and third were vodka.”
Dorothy: “No wonder my head is spinning!”
Sophia: “This one’s part Amaretto, part Sambuca. That should kill everything. It killed your father.”
It wasn’t until years later that I actually had my first hot toddy. They are the perfect hot drink to give you a little pick me up when you are feeling slightly under the weather, or to warm up on a cold winter’s night. I prefer mine without tea, but a nice english breakfast tea would be nice if you don’t mind the caffeine.
