After letting the primer dry, it was time to start painting. As I mentioned before, Diane went with a high gloss paint in black.
She bought a quart of paint, which was more than enough to do both nightstands. It took 3 coats of paint, but the end result was gorgeous. Here is one nightstand after one coat of paint:

Check the paint can for the cure time. It turns out that the paint that she bought had a really long cure time (a couple of weeks) before you didn’t have to worry about ending up with small dents if you put anything heavy on top of it, or the paint coming off. She played with the idea of putting a poly coat over everything, but ultimately decided that it would be easier to get glass tops made to protect the surface. Here is the final product in their bedroom:
